Dateline: September 2019, Alpine, CA.
While attending the San Diego Gas and Electric community event on Saturday, August 14, 2019 at the Alpine Community Center, Dr. Horvath met an amazing group of volunteers from the community of all ages. The project began ins 2016 when a high school student was diagnosed with osteosarcoma cancer. The student's friends began Sewing for Sam, a project that assists all children facing extended hospital stays, is inspired by love and grounded in friendship and community. This group of young high school students turned college students have begun the process of successfully impacting the community they live in.
Sewing for Sam, is a community event designed to create comfortable, stylish hospital gowns for children facing long-term hospital stays. They then take the fabric scraps and make hair scrunchies that are sold to obtain more fabric and supplies.
