The right to bear arms...the British are Coming...

"The British Are Coming, The British Are Coming…"
Paul Revere is commonly credited with saying these words. His warning for everyone to bear arm was made famous in a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere." From this point forward in our Nation's history, life has been more like “Annie Get Your Gun” in the United States.
The purpose of the right to bear arms is twofold:
1) to allow individuals to protect themselves and their families and
2) to ensure a body of armed citizen can form a militia, whether that militia's role was to protect the nation, or to protect the people from a tyrannical government.
I read where Thomas Jefferson said, "...Laws that forbid the carrying of arms . . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants."
Jefferson also said, “What signify [significance] is a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. In other words, lives will be lost in order to maintain our liberty.
This country has a mental health problem disguised as a gun problem. People are not taught or simply care about the value of a life.
I understand and support the Second Amendment. Yet, let’s face the truth - an obvious truth. When you carry a gun, you mean to harm somebody, kill somebody or shoot something; even if we are defending ourselves.
Exodus 22:2 says, “If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed.”
On the very day of his arrest Christ said to his disciples, “If you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one” (Luke 22:36). Christ expected things to become very unsafe for his disciples after his death, and told them to prepare to defend themselves from unjust aggression.
A body without an immune system cannot defend itself and soon dies. Any godly society that refuses to establish and enforce God’s laws will also eventually “die,” i.e., be overcome by wickedness. If we are to have a healthy society, maybe we should return to an eye for an eye. This clearly teaches the value of life, because it shows that the only thing as valuable as a life is a life. No wonder God commanded, “Life for life” in Scripture, and even repeated it twice (Ex. 21:23; Deut. 19:21).
